Optional (but Recommended) "Taxes 101" Session for New Volunteers

This optional (but highly recommended) mini-training was held on Saturday, November 22nd. It is a brief introduction to basics of taxation to improve your general understanding, help pass the Pre-Test, and decrease your stress levels in January trainings. If you missed the training, you can still download training materials: Mandatory 1-day Training + Post-Test for Returning Volunteers

If you are a returning volunteer (you took part in VITA 2008 and you are listed either as a volunteer or shift manager) and you do not want to come to the entire 3-day training in January, then you can come in on Saturday, January 17th for a 1-day training designed for returning volunteers. You are still required to pass the Post-Test.

Mandatory 3-Day Training + Post-Test for New Volunteers

This is the main training that is mandatory for all students. It is a four-part training. Parts I and II are devoted to federal taxation, and Part III is about New York State taxation. Part IV is a comprehensive open-book exam - a real tax return (both federal and NYS) that you will have to prepare in class. More details about the Part IV are posted in the test section.

All parts are mandatory and cannot be skipped. If you cannot attend one of the parts, you will not be able to participate in the program. The training will take place on weekends in January 2009.

Training will take place at Baruch College. All students will be split up into smaller classrooms with 40-50 students per room. The schedule looks like this:
