Academic Workshops and Review Sessions

CPE Workshop

All students are required to take the CUNY Proficiency Exam (CPE), and SEEK does everything it can to insure that its students pass on their first try.  In fact, CPE pass rate among Baruch SEEK students is %91.9, higher than any other group of students, SEEK or Non-SEEK, throughout all of CUNY.

One of the SEEK counselors runs a workshop in which students are not only introduced to the format and content of the exam, but they are taught exactly how they should prepare.  They are given sample essays, passing and failing, and they begin to understand exactly they need to do to pass.  In addition, they receive a quick grammar lesson in order enhance their writing ability and boost their confidence.

Computer Program Workshops

At various times throughout the semester, students have the opportunity to increase their computer proficiency.  Workshops are offered to teach students the following programs: Excel (Beginning and Advanced), Power Point, HTML, and ACCESS.  These workshops are often scheduled over the January break or during the summer, so that students have time to participate.

A structured Excel Workshop is built into Freshman Seminar.  All Baruch students are required to take the SIMNET, an Excel proficiency test.  The SEEK Program makes sure that its students are prepared, despite the fact that the school offers no Excel instruction.  These workshops have proven extremely successful; in the past two years, %100 of participant passed the SIMNET on their first try.

Exam Review Sessions

At the end of the semester , students have the opportunity to get together and meet with a tutor to review for their final exams.  Multiple sessions are scheduled, in any course requested.

Grammar Workshop

In the business world, writing skills are extremely important.  One cannot send an email or write a memo with grammar mistakes if they wish to make a positive impression.  Therefore, the SEEK Program holds a number of grammar workshops, or rather, Grammar Boot-Camps.  As the name implies, these workshops are very intense.  Students can learn a great deal of information in a short time if they focus and practice their skills as they learn.  The workshops are run by an English Professor with a Masters of Fine Arts in Writing.
