IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS FOLLOWING HURRICANE SANDY

Dear Students,

I would like to provide you with an update on Baruch’s response to Hurricane Sandy and share some additional resources that have come to our attention since my last message.  Many Baruch students continue to face challenges as a result of the hurricane and my office has been working diligently to assist those in need.

At the same time, many Baruch students are finding their way back to normal routines.  We encourage you to be mindful of your peers and surrounding communities and offer to help where you can.  Baruch will be coordinating opportunities to volunteer in the coming weeks and we hope you will join us in serving those whose needs are great.

Now that the initial shock of this event has passed, you may begin to experience new emotions and responses that you had not expected.  Please know that the Baruch College Counseling Center continues to be an important resource for all students.  We encourage you to contact them for assistance.  They can be reached at (646) 312-2155, or you can also email for an appointment at counseling@baruch.cuny.edu.

As a reminder, we have rescheduled our academic calendar to accommodate the missed class days:

  • The schedule of classes must be adjusted to address the week of missed class time.  Below is the formal schedule of make-up classes for the College.  Please note that you must check in with your professor to determine if there are other requirements or variations to your class schedule, and to confirm the room number in which the make-up class will meet:
  • Sat/Sun classes will have additional minutes added to the end of each of the remaining 4 classes for the term.
  • Friday classes will meet one additional day on Sunday, November 11
  • Monday classes will meet one additional day on Sunday, November 18
  • Tuesday classes will meet one additional day on Sunday, December 2
  • Wednesday classes will meet one additional day on Sunday, December 9
  • Thursday classes will meet one additional day on Thursday, December 13.

Example: If I have a class that meets on Mondays and Fridays, my make-up dates are Nov 11th (for the Friday that was missed) and Nov 18th (for the Monday that was missed).

  • The last day to withdraw from a class has been extended to Friday, November 16, at 5pm. If you are an undergraduate student considering fully withdrawing from the term, you must visit the Center for Academic Advisement first (5th floor of the NVC).  Please note we have put a number of support mechanisms in place to assist you, and do not believe full withdrawal may be necessary. However, speaking with an academic advisor must be the first step.
  • Graduate students considering a full withdrawal should visit the following offices:
    • Zicklin Graduate Students: ZSB Graduate Academic Services; 646-312-3140; NVC, Room 13-221
    • Weissman Graduate Students: Weissman Graduate Affairs; 646-312-4490; NVC, Room 8-211
    • Public Affairs Graduate Students: School of Public Affairs Curricular Guidance; 646-660-6757; 22nd St, Room 312
  • Registration for the winter and spring terms of 2013 was postponed and will begin on Wednesday, Nov 14th.  Adjustments are being made this week to appointment times and we will notify you when you can check eSims for your new appointment times.  Registration will take place (with a break for Thanksgiving) from November 14th  - November 29th.

In addition to the resources provided directly by Baruch, we encourage you to take advantage of support being provided by city, state, and federal agencies:

  • For students who want to apply for emergency financial assistance, please fill out the emergency funding application if it is related to the hurricane. Please be prepared to provide supporting documents with your application.
