When is the application deadline?

A completed online application is due no later than May 15, 2013 in order to attend the Summer 2013 program.

When will students hear from the Admissions Office about their application status?

Competitibe admissions are made on a rolling basis. A mailed notification for acceptance or denial is typically sent within a month after the application file is completed.

Who is eligible to apply to the Summer Program?

The Baruch Leadership Academy is open to all high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. Enrollment for the Sophomore Academic Enrichment is limited to students entering their sophomore year of study. Enrollment for the Entrepreneurship, Pre-Med and Pre-Law focus academies is limited to students entering their junior and senior years of study.

Are scholarship opportunities available?

Can I apply if I am taking the SAT in May or June?

Yes.

Can I apply if I am taking the Regents in May or June?

Yes.

How much does the summer program cost?

Day student tuition = $2,900

Residential student tuition (includes room, meals, and activities) = $6,000

A non-refundable deposit fee of $250 is required upon acceptance to the summer program. Without a deposit, your child's enrollment is not guaranteed in the program. Full tuition payment must be made prior to starting the program.

What happens if I cannot attend the program every day?

Consistent attendance is mandatory. Students who cannot make a full commitment to the program should not apply. If the student is unable to attend the Academy on a certain day(s) for any reason, we ask for advance notice. The camp coordinator should be called when a student calls out sick. There is no refund for missed days of camp.

What if my child gets sick?

With a trained health care specialist on campus, a licensed athletic trainer and EMT's on campus, we have got your child covered. Immediate assistance is available for certain injuries. In addition, you will be contacted via emergency contact cards.

Can I sign up for more than one course?

The Baruch Leadership Academy is on a per Focus Academy basis (choose either Pre-Med, Pre-Law, Entrepreneurship or Sophomore Enrichment Academy), you can only apply for one Academy program per year.

Will I receive a Baruch College I.D. card?

Yes. All students who take a course at Baruch College are issued a Baruch College I.D. card to access the facilities on the campus.

What facilities will I have access to?

Students have access to all of the college's facilities, including the library, the gym and the computer labs.

Does the program require and provide textbooks?

All course materials will be provided to you.

Does the program provide lunch?

Lunch is not provided, but you can visit the many restaurants, and delis in the neighborhood or sign up for the Meal Plan. *If there is an interest in participating in the Meal Plan program, please indicate so on your application and more information will be provided to you.

Does the program provide transportation?

Transportation is only provided on days where there is a field trip scheduled (only transportation from Baruch College to field trip destination and back to Baruch College will be provided during the scheduled trip).

Is a laptop computer required? What other items are needed for the program?

A laptop is not required.

Does a student need to complete two applications if he or she is applying to more than one program?

No, the student should simply check on the application form the Focus Academy to which he or she is interested in applying. Please note, however, that you will only be able to attend one Focus Academy so please identify the order of preference.

Do students need to send in all their application components at once?

Yes, an incomplete application will not be accepted. However, please indicate if your recommendations are being sent separately. Students should be sure to contact their recommenders and schools to verify that their recommendation letters and transcripts were sent to the Leadership Academy offices.

How many letters of recommendation does a student need?

Only one recommendation is strongly recommended. Please be sure the recommendation comes from a teacher, principal, guidance counselor or another individual who has worked with the student in an academic environment.

Can international students apply to summer programs?

What kind of supervision is provided?

Each Focus Academy has a Program Coordinator and Program Assistant that remain with the students throughout the day. Attendance is taken in the morning and after lunch and parents are contacted if any issues develop. Students are escorted by both the Program Coordinator and Program Assistant for all on-campus activities. Any off campus events involves additional supervision from university staff members.

Are there rules to be followed and a student code of conduct?

In addition to adhering to the Baruch College Code of Student Conduct, Baruch Leadership Academy participants must abide by the following:

  • Strong Attendance. Advance notification of absences could be made up to the morning before class begins by leaving a voicemail at (646) 326-4286. Unplanned and prolonged unexcused absences without advance notification will require a verbal dialog between parent/guardian and Camp Director.
  • Students are required to sign in/out every day.
  • While cell phones are allowed on campus, we ask they be turned off during classes. Text messaging during sessions is prohibited.
  • Participants are to remain with their group and counselor throughout the day unless specific permission is granted from the counselor/camp coordinator.
  • Intentional disruption or obstruction of teaching can result in a student's termination from the program.
  • Physical or verbal abuse or harassment of any fellow classmate or program instructor or administrator is strictly prohibited.
  • Theft, willful destruction, damage, or misuse of college property or property belonging to peers, the camp and community is strictly prohibited.
  • Violations or misconduct will result in immediate dismissal from camp without refund.
