The Writing Center’s consultants are academic professionals; many are instructors in Baruch’s Department of English. Each consultant has proven ability teaching student writers, especially students still in the process of learning English.

To get the most out of a Writing Center session, be prepared. Make an appointment to see a consultant well before your writing assignment is due but after completing some writing for that assignment.

The goal of each session is to strengthen writing and English language skills while working on a specific writing assignment. Writing Center consultants can help you:

• Identify your strengths and weaknesses as a writer and an English language learner
• Practice strategies that you can use to improve as a writer
• Negotiate a plan of action to complete the writing assignment at hand
• Work with you at any point of the writing process, including preparing a draft, revision, editing, and proofreading

Sessions by appointment with Writing Center consultants are 50 minutes long and may be conducted face-to-face in the Writing Center or online. Walk-in sessions are available on a first-come, first-served basis for 30 minutes. eTutoring and workshops are also available.
