Glossary of terms associated with Collegiate Greek Life

- ACTIVE
- An initiated member who is currently paying dues to an undergraduate chapter.

- ALUMNUS/ALUMNA
- An initiated fraternity/sorority member who has completed his/her course of study from the University.

- BARUCH COLLEGE INTER-GREEK COUNCIL
- The governing body of all recognized Greek Lettered Organizatons on the Baruch College campus.

- BID/INVITE
- A formal invitation given by a chapter asking a prospective member to join the chapter.

- BIG BROTHER/SISTER
- Some organizations choose an active member whose role it is to assist and advise a new member.

- BROTHER/SISTER
- An initiated member of a fraternity/sorority.

- CHAPTER
- The local collegiate membership of a national fraternal organization.

- FRATERNITY
- An individual men's Greek Letter Organization.

- GREEK
- The name applied to affiliated sorority and fraternity members.

- INITIATION/ACTIVATION/CROSSING
- A ritual based ceremony that marks the acceptance of a lifetime commitment to the fraternity or sorority.

- MIXER
- An opportunity for members of different Greek Lettered Organizations to network or party.

- NEOPHYTE
- The latest additions to a chapter are called NEOS short for NEOPHYTE.
