STUDENT GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS AT BARUCH

Undergraduate Student Government (USG) is the official representative organization of both the day and evening undergraduate students.

2013 CANDIDATES

BUILD BARUCH

Build Baruch aims to facilitate the growth of school spirit, student life and community at Baruch College. We aim to incentivize attendance at student events and encourage extracurricular involvement by fostering stronger relationships with clubs. We want to establish a balance between the Undergraduate Student Government and undergraduate students that ensures service to students of all walks of Baruch life. Our platform for next year includes initiatives such as a Bearcat punch card program, where students are rewarded for attending Baruch events, a mentorship program with faculty, a bridge-building program between clubs and USG, where student senators serve as personal resources to specific clubs, an expansion of Baruch District and the creation of a new party co-sponsorship competition with clubs. We intend to utilize the 25th Street Plaza and offer a consistent array of diverse events, including regular senior semester bar nights, game viewing nights, movie showings and outings to CUNY and New York City athletic and cultural events. Branding USG and marketing initiatives throughout campus is a major goal of our team. Both in school and online, we will maintain a presence and serve as a resource for students who are interested in getting involved or simply seeking information.

Elisabeth Greenberg This college has been incredibly good to me, and I want more students to look forward to coming here everyday. We have put together a team of energetic students representing all walks of Baruch life, and if we are in office next year, I guarantee this campus will see immense growth in community and spirit, and far more students will feel USG's presence. Together we can all build Baruch.

Executive Vice President

Noshin Rabbani All of the people I've met and the great experiences that I've had these past years at Baruch have led me to want to make this college as amazing as possible for as many students as I can. I’ve been working diligently for the past two years in order to make our campus the best it could be. We have put together a fantastic team with various interests and together we will work to continue to improve Baruch. If we are in office next year we will work hard to increase our sustainability efforts, be highly accessible to the student body, and create more Bearcat pride. Together we can all Build Baruch to its fullest potential.

Treasurer

Steve Shahverdi I have been an active club leader on Baruch’s campus and I feel that now is the best time for me to become part of a team that has a lot of power to make changes at Baruch. I know that if given the opportunity to become Treasurer of USG I will do big things for the school. I have always loved Baruch but I have always let other people take care of the place I call home. Now it is time for me to take the responsibility for Baruch to become bigger and better.

Secretary

Matthew Melore I have been active in student government for more than two years now and I am excited to see what can be achieved next year. If elected to office I plan on keeping USG organized and spreading happiness to all students on campus!

Vice Presidential Senators

Bryan Salazar (Academic Affairs) Throughout my past years in Baruch I have met some amazing people who have made my college experience more enjoyable. I believe that in order for students to maximize their overall experience in college they should be able to develop a stronger relationship with their professors. If we are in office next year, I will work hard to make your overall experience at Baruch an unforgettable one.

Kristopher Kesoglides (Campus Affairs) I’m incredibly stoked to announce my candidacy for Vice President of Campus Affairs under Build Baruch. Our team is filled with people who are skilled, dedicated, and most importantly, optimistic. If elected, I plan to diversify events on campus in order to accommodate all walks of student life.

Camille O’Brien (Legislative Affairs) I am pumped to be running with Build Baruch! We are a great team of dedicated and hard working people that have some great ideas about how to build our campus in so many different ways. I have been working on many projects this year and am hoping to continue to advocate on behalf of students and provide them with the resources they need to advocate for themselves.

Luis Ureña (Student Services) As a current student leader I understand the challenges that are faced from organizing events to working with Student Life. I have been able to meet and collaborate with many student leaders and faculty and I believe that we need to broaden BaruchConnect in order for the Baruch community to understand how much the student life at Baruch has to offer. I also believe that EVERY voice should be heard from the student leader to the student that works full time and attends evening classes. I am ready to help Build Baruch!

Representative Senators

Andew De Rosa One core value Bearcats share is we all want to optimize our four years at Baruch and really make the most out of our college experiences. In order to succeed in that goal, it is imperative student voices are heard and represented in USG. This is why, if elected Senator, my main project would be to launch more interactive programs and events where students can directly access their elected officials. Through online forums via social media and more town hall meetings in school, students will be able to openly voice any concerns, questions, or ideas they may have about Baruch. This engagement will build a bridge to close the gap between students and their government, and as a result, our school will grow tremendously.

Gerald Tabaosares I’ve learned to love this school ever since Freshman year. My leadership experiences come from being an active member of F.U.S.I.O.N. and TEAM Baruch and although I love it here, I believe we can make sure more feel the same way by working to do so everyday!

Ian Wildman I'm so pleased to be running for Representative Senator and for a chance to help Build Baruch. I'm hopeful we can reignite spirit in this campus, renew outdated facilities and make this college experience as personable each student is. We recognize the status quo isn't good enough as we realize building Baruch isn't just a mantra, it's also a philosophy.

Judy Chen I have remained an attentive member of Baruch's student body during my time here and I would love nothing more than to display all my knowledge on the workings of this place by serving as the USG Senator. I hope to build a strong relationship with the student community and channel that strength towards making positive changes. Baruch has helped me grow into the person I am today so now it's my turn, along with the rest of my team, to help Build Baruch.

Martin Schmid I am excited to announce that I will be running to be a Senator on next year's Undergraduate Student Government of Baruch College! After working closely with this year's USG on a myriad of tasks and events, I have gained invaluable experience that places me in a position that thoroughly understands how the student government process works. One project that I want to develop next year is the Building Bridges program, in which each one of Baruch's many clubs and organizations will have easy and direct access to their newly assigned USG Senator, who can be a resource to better serve the diverse student organizations. My team and I have solutions. My team and I know what needs to get done.

Raquel Rodriguez It takes a certain kind of enthusiasm, commitment, and drive that I have seen from my so many friends and students on this campus that has truly changed my life the past three years at Baruch. I have learned so much by being involved with Student Government this past year while holding various leadership roles. Most importantly I learned to do what you love. I can't wait to continue the growth of Baruch District and provide students with the best discounts, promotions, and events!! Join us and let's continue to Build Baruch together.

Sabrina Poonoo I believe in building a campus community where students are aware of the resources and can take advantage of the many opportunities Baruch has to offer both academically and socially. My teammates are hard working, enthusiastic and optimistic and can't wait to Build Baruch.

Tegan Kline The skill set that I have developed, and continue to develop, through my involvement in many of Baruch’s organizations will be a great asset to Baruch community. As a Senator in USG I, along with my team members, will lay a foundation that will continue to foster the great tradition within this college. I believe that the panel we have assembled will immensely impact the infrastructure.

Viktor Bunin I have been an active club leader on Baruch’s campus and I feel now is the time for me to "be the change I wish to see in the world." I know that if given the opportunity to become Senator in USG, it will be my duty to represent the best interests of the entire student body to the very best of my ability. Baruch is more to me than a school; it is the embodiment of who I wish to be as a person.

Nicholas Nehaul (Appeals) I come from an organization that believes in developing leaders and making a lasting impact. My focus hasnt changed. I believe in this party & in their platform of building school spirit, lasting relationships, and Baruch as a whole.

Anjelica Mantikas (Community Outreach) By hosting more off campus events as well as creating more volunteer opportunities, I believe that we can change the stereotype that Baruch has the unhappiest students. Let's build a more connected and happier college community!

Ksheetiz Kapoor (Finance) I have been part of the finance committee for two years and have the experience required. I believe that if elected I can work closely with Club Leaders and ensure that they are up to date with USG's policies. As an international student, I thought I would have a difficult time adjusting. However, Baruch has given me a second family and a second home- I am so excited to be part of this USG team!

Catalina Flores (Sustainability) I’ve really grown to love this school over the three years I’ve spent here, and I know that with the team composed of bright, motivated individuals that we’ve put together, we can bring real and positive change to Baruch and make it even more awesome. Next year I want to work hard to increase bearcat pride, school spirit and sustainability on campus.

Bianca Rosario In the three years I've attended Baruch College, I've seen many improvements that have contributed to the increasing quality of student life. I hope to build on this momentum and further enhance the student experience by increasing engagement of students on campus and improving communications between the students, professors, administrators and all other stakeholders.

Jonathan Albujar My experiences on the Greek end of Baruch student life and in USG have made me love this school, but also have made me see that I want to be more actively involved in CUNY as a whole, not just at Baruch. We want to make more events more open to students from other campuses, and I want to be a big part of this.

Jung Park From the very first day that I stepped foot into Baruch, I knew that I could make a difference. I’ve surrounded myself with the best people to make my goals come true, especially with my Soccer Club and my media team. In every way, the members of the Build Baruch team have encouraged me wholeheartedly to become a student leader. Without them, I wouldn't have accomplished as much as I did here as a freshman. A vote for Build Baruch means I’ll be working my heart out for the growth of clubs and campus life. This is the next big step for change.

Lalit Kumar In the two years that I have spent in Baruch as international student, I have always felt welcomed. I have met amazing people and built friendships that are going to last for years, if not for life. Everyone has been incredibly helpful and supportive. I believe it is time for me now to grow as a leader and serve the student community. I have been extremely involved in the college community; my experience working with various organizations on campus and with the USG Finance Committee has provided me with valuable knowledge. If elected, I will be a dedicated student representative responsible for interacting with club leaders, faculty and administrators and for helping them on major decisions.

Lily Qin With an extraordinary team of candidates, Build Baruch strives to maximize your college experience. Being an active member of Baruch's community has given me the opportunity to understand what we need. Oleg Shvetsov I want to help make sure the student voice is represented on the board and also make sure Baruch students recognize what USG is and which students are members through clear marketing.

Sequoyah Douglas As a current club leader and all around busy body at Baruch I think about all the complaints that I make about Baruch and what I would do if I had more power. I want to bring change to a place that has made such a great impact on my scholastic career. I would like to make change and bring Baruch to great heights next year and even greater the year to come.

Faculty/Student Disciplinary Committee

Nicholas Minors I am so excited to become an even more active member of the Baruch community. I stand in line with other members of my team in wanting to build school spirit and community, I also look forward to fulfilling a serious role where I can interact with both faculty and students.

Uriel Iraelov As an active student life member, it is of utmost importance to me that students are treated and judged fairly. With my years of study in ethics and my drive to make Baruch College a better place for all students, I promise to handle my position with the care and responsibility that it deserves.

Athletic Board

Edson Flores During my time as an athlete I became aware of all the hard work and dedication our athletes put into their activities. That’s why I believe it is time for the Student Government to offer incentives for showing your support to our high performing athletes. From experience I know that as a team we can Build Spirit and Build Community.

Jack McKee As a member of the volleyball team my goal is to increase turnout at athletic events across the board, and in doing so, create more school spirit and bearcat pride.

Taylor Higgs Volleyball has shown me how much work it takes to be a Baruch athlete. I want to make sure more students come out to show support for all athletes at Baruch and that the supporters have a good time at games!

Communications Board

Brian Barr I am so excited to be running with Build Baruch for the Communications Board. My experience at WBMB (the college radio station) will bring much needed legitimate experience to the board.

Katherine Pangilinan I am excited to officially announce my candidacy for the Communications Board at Baruch College. Over the past two years I have learned that this college has so many avenues in which a person may come to lay the foundations for successful careers and withstanding friendships. Over the past two years, I have also noticed that these wonderful opportunities are not very easily accessible. Therefore, if elected, I am confident that I, along with my running mates, can effectively make students aware of the opportunities available to them, or else help them BUILD the path to what they so desire.

Michael Tonkin I am looking forward to working with Build Baruch to coordinate with the school’s media groups and am certain that this team is equipped to do just that.

Student Center Board

Brenton Ali With each year I spend at Baruch, the disadvantages of attending a CUNY become clearer to me. For one, we don't have a true campus, something everyone associates with college. We have it hard because we are located in the heart of Manhattan. Yes, they say that "the city is our campus", but is it really? Because of this, students are less likely to hang out at Baruch or attend school related events; leading to a drop in school spirit. Recently USG has closed the street between the library and VC, as well as starting development on the Student Center. It's a step in the right direction, but it is far from finished. If elected, I will work towards expanding our "campus"; one that everyone will enjoy and call their own. With student help, we can build unity.

Christine Dao Our team is dedicated to make the most of every students' college experience. Baruch Campus is always opening up new opportunities for me to grow as an leader and I want every student share the same spirit! If I am elected, I will meet the diverse needs of the student community by encouraging more quality social, cultural, and intellectual activities. We are confident that our platform will ensure a closer relationship between students and their student body government.

Juan Vasquez I had been active in student life since my arrival at Baruch College almost two years ago. During that time I had met a wonderful group of students who are concern not only with their grades and future career prospects but also with the well being of the Baruch community. As a candidate, I promise that I will bring more transparency to all auxiliary board meetings and ensure that the board carries its responsibilities with the student body interest in mind. In short I promise to build Baruch with my running mates and translate my military service into serving you.

Student Media Council

Malika Rose Abdussalaam I want to use media and work with the Athletics Board to promote Baruch athletics and athletes, build school spirit and increase the attendance at games.

Mia Caraballo Our school is full of so many amazing resources that many students don't ever hear about such as CEO guest speakers, free dance classes, or service learning trips. I want to make sure every student, at every level of involvement, knows about the events and opportunities available to them. I promise to use my years of graphic design experience to provide clear, consistent marketing through out the campus as well as on social media and BaruchConnect.com so that students are always well informed.

Sanne Lynam Although I was never overly active at Baruch in the past, I’m really looking forward to being a part of it now. I have come to make so many good friends on campus and have had the best opportunities possible. Now I’m ready to give back to my peers here and am excited to be part of this fantastic team.

Student Building Fund Committee

Emi Suzuki As intimidating as it may sound, the focus of my role is not to be punitive, but rather work towards improving the Baruch community. In the time that I have spent here, I have come to love everything that this college has to offer; I especially value the diversity, and admire the drive that Baruch students have. As a part of Build Baruch, I can guarantee that change will be made for the better. Never have a met a more focused and motivated group of people than my peers on this team. Although our school is the tallest business school in America, we are capable of much more growth.

Ernest Esparza I was never too involved at Baruch College but enjoy being a student here. I am interested in finally being a more serious member of Baruch’s student life and look forward to leaving a lasting imprint on the school just like I did at my high school. I’m looking into beginning my student leadership experience here at Baruch.

Ibrahim Jubair I have been active at Baruch for a number of years but I’m excited to become even more active. Through a spot on the Student Building Fund I hope to make a lasting impact on Baruch College, and with team Build Baruch I am sure a positive impact will be felt in more than one way.

Nateshwar Nauth It was less than a year ago that I walked through the doors of Baruch for the first time. It was a lot to take in. Of course I was nervous, but as I became familiar with my surroundings I felt an attachment to Baruch. As a member of the Build Baruch team I aspire to make this a better place for students as we all do. We are truly passionate about Baruch’s welfare and have only its best interests in mind.

Student Programming Board

Israel Suero I have been in Baruch for a couple of years now and truly want to get involved with USG to help promote Student Life at Baruch. The people I have met during this campaigning process are very passionate about Baruch and I am proud to say that I too have gained that passion. Together I am sure we can make this school even better.

Nihan Ali Syed As a freshman miles away from my hometown in a brand new city, one of my main concerns was making friends at Baruch. I want to work hard with Build Baruch to offer a consistent array of fun events that will make students want to get involved and promote a sense of unity, which can be very challenging at a commuter school. I am confident that Build Baruch will improve our school significantly.

Ryan Bermingham I believe that I posses not only the creative mindset necessary to propose entertaining and diverse programs for the Baruch student body but also the diligence to ensure their success.

Shaily Shah Although I am only a freshman I have already gotten a small taste of what it’s like to be involved at Baruch. I see so many areas where the college can grow and want to be a part of the process of helping students have a better time here. With our team I am certain we will see that growth on campus.

Richard Reyes I look forward to organizing and implementing new health and fitness programs on campus to encourage students to live a more active lifestyle and to build community on campus. I want to make Baruch into CUNY’s most fit campus.
