The Step Academy is designed to provide program activities to assist students in acquiring the skills and attitude necessary to pursue post secondary education leading to careers in scientific, technical or health-related fields, or the licensed professions. To this end, the Academy has the following goals:
- To expose students to numerous careers requiring basic and advanced skills in mathematics and science.
- To provide students with opportunities to meet with role models and community leaders who may enhance their career and academic goals.
- To provide its participants with a creative and innovative learning experience.
- To increase students' knowledge about computers with particular emphasis placed on using the internet for academic research
- To expose parents to various workshops that will assist them in taking an active role in their children's academic lives.
Students participating in Baruch College's STEP Academy program are highly motivated to learn more about math and science and come from many different high schools in the New York City region.
