Biography

Thad Calabrese is an Assistant Professor at Baruch College - CUNY in the School of Public Affairs.  He teaches Budgeting, Accounting, and Financial Analysis, as well as Financial Management for Nonprofit Organizations.  He received his Ph.D. from the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University in May, 2009, and received his MPA from Wagner in 2000. His dissertation, "Three Essays on Nonprofit Net Assets," focuses on issues in nonprofit financial accounting, net asset accumulation, and the role of risk in nonprofit finance. Prior to beginning his Ph.D. studies, Dr. Calabrese worked in the New York City Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget, and also at a consulting firm that provides outsourced financial management services to nonprofit organizations in the New York City area. He has also served as a consultant with the Blue Ridge Foundation of New York. Dr. Calabrese has presented original research at conferences such as the Association for Budgeting and Financial Management (ABFM), the Association for Public Policy and Management (APPAM), and the Association for Research on Nonprofit and Voluntary Associations (ARNOVA). In 2009, he was awarded an “Emerging Scholars Award” by ARNOVA.
