OUR ADVISORS
Undergraduate Advisement
There are three levels of Advisement available to undergraduate students in the School of Public Affairs' Bachelor of Science in Public Affairs and Bachelor of Science in Real Estate and Metropolitan Development programs.
I. CORE CURRICULUM ADVISEMENT
is for newly admitted Baruch students, whether Freshmen or newly admitted Transfer students. Core Curriculum Advising deals only with the Baruch College Common Core/Humanities curriculum requirements, which all Baruch undergraduates must fulfill regardless of school or major. The Core Curriculum includes the Tiers I, II, and III (Minor) requirements. Core Curriculum Advisement is handled by the Center for Advisement & Orientation. Students can make an appointment with a Counselor to have a worksheet done to make sure they are on track with Core Curriculum requirements or to find more information about undergraduate services. Don't forget to check out the "SPA Corner." All SPA students wishing to request registration permission for their Tier III Humanities Minor should contact Stephanie Govan in the Weissman Dean's Office.
II. UNDERGRADUATE MAJOR ADVISEMENT
Primarily for School of Public Affairs majors, and upper Sophomores, and Juniors about to declare their major in Public Affairs
All Eligibility Review for Your Major forms are received by Jennifer Harrington, the Undergraduate Coordinator for The School of Public Affairs. She is the primary contact person for Major Advisement for both Public Affairs, and deals with administrative issues relating to official Major Declarations, Credit Overload, Registration, Change of Grade, Appeals, and Waivers/Substitutions.
III. FACULTY ADVISEMENT
Required for all students wishing to declare an official major in the School of Public Affairs. After meeting with the Undergraduate Coordinator, students are referred to faculty for advisement.
Students may contact Jennifer Harrington, the SPA Undergraduate Coordinator for advisement during the summer session. Students must receive approval from the faculty advisor for their Major Specialization before admission into the major. Once the faculty advisor approves the specialization, students can request registration permission for any 3000+ level Weissman School humanities courses by contacting Stephanie Govan. For a Zicklin School business course, students should use #6 on the ZUPS link. Being an official BSPA major does not automatically exempt or waive students from ZK or WSAS pre-requisites, nor will it get them into closed courses.
