EXECUTIVE PROGRAMS

National Urban Fellows

National Urban Fellows is a competitive program in which students earn an MPA from the School of Public Affairs through a combination of mentorships and on-campus study. Through its leadership development program, National Urban Fellows has successfully prepared over 1,400 mid-career people of color and women for leadership and management positions in government and nonprofit sectors. Fellows are exposed to a unique combination of academic training and hands-on experience in a nine-month mentorship with a prominent public official, administrator or manager.

Program Design:

National Urban Fellows is a rigorous 14-month, full-time graduate program comprised of a full time academic curriculum and a nine-month mentorship, leading to a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from Baruch College/ City University of New York. An MPA degree is awarded to Fellows upon completion of all academic and program requirements.

Curriculum Structure:

  • First Summer Semester - Students begin their first semester of classes on campus at Baruch College.
  • Nine Month Mentorship Assignment - Students begin working at selected mentor sites throughout the country. Classes will be conducted online during this time. As placements are nationwide, Fellows are expected to relocate to the city of their assignment.
  • Mid-Year Academic Conference - Students will attend a three-day intensive professional development conference in January.
