The Center for Innovation and Leadership in Government (CILG) was created to preserve continuity and institutional memory in municipal government by preparing prospective and newly elected or appointed government officials for effective public service. In 2001 and 2005, CILG partnered with the New York City Council in presenting briefing materials and preparing a two day orientation program for newly elected City Council members. This is also planned following the next municipal election in 2009.
The Center continues to sponsor a series of policy discussions, featuring leaders in New York’s civic and governmental communities debating such issues as health policy, public schools, political lobbying, polling, and youth media. These events are open to all interested New Yorkers. In addition, CILG provides access to non-partisan, interdisciplinary, scholarly, academically rigorous policy research that gives government officials the ability to address complex issues. The Center has adopted a broad range of activities including serving as the home of the archives of New York City’s fiscal crisis of the 1970s.
We encourage civic organizations, legislators and government offices interested in engaging the Center in examining public policy issues to contact our office at (646) 660-6700.
To keep abreast of our policy forums we invite you to visit us on this page frequently or send us an email with your contact information to join our e-mail listserv.
