Bachelor of Science in Real Estate and Metropolitan Development

Dean David Birdsell of the School of Public Affairs and Dean John Elliott of the Zicklin School of Business are pleased to announce the official merger of the School of Public Affairs' Bachelor of Science in Real Estate and Metropolitan Development (BSREMD) with the Zicklin School of Business' Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Real Estate. The School of Public Affairs' Bachelor of Science in Real Estate and Metropolitan Development (BSREMD) program will no longer admit any new official majors as of Friday, September 15th, 2006. Those of you who plan to declare your major in BSREMD by the September 15th deadline must have the following prerequisites: · ACC 2101 · COM 1010 · ECO 1001 · ENG 2100 · ENG 2150 · Calculus (MTH 2201/2206/2207/2610 or 2630) · PUB 1250 or POL 1101 · STA 2000 · CIS 2200 · at least 45 credits earned · a cumulative gpa of at least 2.5. Students who are intended, expected or unofficial BSREMD majors coded S79, I79, E79, or C02 who will not have all of the above prerequisites by the September 15th deadline can continue their Real Estate studies in the newly-merged BBA in Real Estate at the Zicklin School of Business.

This new Zicklin BBA in Real Estate is comprised of two distinct tracks within the major: Investment and Development. The "Development" track is the most similar in content to the current BSREMD. However, keep in mind, a switch into the RE BBA is not necessarily automatic as the Zicklin BBA has an 8 course pre-business core that must be completed before one can be admitted into a Zicklin major. The details of the pre-business core and an online eligibility application can be found here.

Information Sessions: The Zicklin Department of Real Estate and the School of Public Affairs will hold two Information Sessions in the Oak Room (137 East 22nd Street, 2nd floor) on Wednesday, September 13th 2006 (12 pm & 6 pm) for students who would like to learn more about the differences between the BSREMD and the new BBA in Real Estate (and its two tracks in Development and Investment). Please RSVP by email here by Wedneday, September 10th. Additional Tuesday and/or Thursday Information Sessions will be scheduled as needed (TBA). Students are strongly encouraged to attend one of these Information Sessions where faculty, staff advisors, and Advisement Center Counselors will be on hand to offer one-on-one guidance and curricular advisement. FAQ sheets highlighting the differences in prerequisites, major admissions requirements, and major courses will also be handed out. Students are welcome to voice any concerns or questions they may have related to this merger at these upcoming Information Sessions.

Students interested in the new BBA in Real Estate should contact Margo Weaker, the Director of Real Estate Student Services. To learn more about the requirements for the new BBA, please see the Department of Real Estate's website.
