Course Offerings

Nearly fifty courses are taught by members of the History Department. Many are offered every semester; others are given in alternate years or on a rotating basis. For students' convenience, History offers several courses in each Baruch summer session as well. A list of exactly which courses are being offered for a particular semester is available in the Baruch College Schedule of Classes, which is printed a few months prior to beginning of a new semester.

History encourages interdisciplinary study and its faculty members actively support joint activities with other departments. The History Department is committed to facilitating Honors work through research projects and advanced courses. Also, the Department recognizes significant historical study undertaken elsewhere, and it encourages advanced work through course exemptions based on transcripts and on exemption examinations.

All Baruch students must take three credit hours of base-curriculum History. Students with any Major in any of the three Schools of Baruch College may have a Minor in History. Students earning the B.A. degree may choose to Major in History. And students in all programs are invited to take History courses from a wide array of offerings, choosing the subjects that enhance their academic program and their personal growth. Many students find special value in courses which deal with aspects of their ethnic background or their family's immigration history.

History Majors are required to take at least 24 credits in History from courses numbered 2000 or above, including at least six credits from courses numbered 3000 or above. History offers four Minor-Concentration programs. The Minor is fulfilled by taking four courses at the 2000 level or above, two of which must be at the 3000 level or above.
