The Alexander String Quartet
Visiting Ensemble in Residence at Baruch College
Baruch College is proud to host The Alexander String Quartet for a one-week
residency each semester. In addition to performing a concert in Engelman
Recital Hall, the Quartet also appears in classes from a variety of
disciplines to explore relationships between their music and other forms of
intellectual endeavor. They might appear in art or literature classes, for
example, to examine the notion of artistic style and its historical
contexts. Or they might discuss the science of musical rhythm in a math
class, the group dynamics of the string quartet in a psychology class, or
the dramatic aspects of musical performance in a theatre class. All this
in addition, of course, to providing an invaluable opportunity for music
students to witness the art of musical performance first-hand, and to pick
the brains of world-renowned musicians on everything from musical creation
and structure to the ups and downs of the music
business.
