French

As a Minor

As globalization proliferates, instruction in francophone language and literature is an ever more important advantage in business, teaching, translation, and other professional careers. French course offerings are of two types: language and literature conducted in the foreign language as well as courses in literature conducted in English. The courses taught in a foreign language are designed to develop students' command of modern languages for use orally and in writing, both in everyday experience and in the realm of literature and ideas.

Students choosing to acquire or further their intellectual abilities in these areas should select two courses at the 3000-level or above from the French section of the department's offering. To complete their minors, students must enroll in an appropriate capstone course. Any 4000 or 5000-level course in French will serve as the capstone course for the Tier III minor requirement.
