Our Region's Future
June 23, 2010
8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
SUBJECT: A Call to Action by Christopher O. Ward, Executive Director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey
Freight drives the region's economy. The ability to access goods quickly and at an affordable price is essential to everyday business, economic competitiveness and people's quality of life. Yet much of the region's vital infrastructure is severely overburdened and outdated, and much of the region's freight policies are fragmented and contradictory. The result is a freight distribution system that is becoming a liability rather than an asset to the region.
At this special event, Christopher O. Ward, Executive Director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, will call for concerted action to create a reliable, sustainable freight distribution system to meet the region's growing challenges. His presentation will include the release of fresh research on regional freight flows and trends, and an analysis of how the region can tackle this challenge the way other are doing across the country and the world.
Mr. Ward will also take questions from our invited audience of government, civic, business, and labor leaders. Members of the public are welcome, too.
