From:  Keisha Peterson, HRPP Coordinator, Human Research Protection Program Office

Dear Baruch Faculty:

In response to the increasing number of requests for inclusion of independent researchers (volunteer researchers) in CUNY research, the Office of Research, in collaboration with the Office of General Counsel, has developed the attached procedures and application allowing for the involvement of Independent Researchers (i.e., volunteer researchers) in CUNY research.

The Independent Researcher Agreement (IRA) is required for all research involving unaffiliated independent researchers conducting research activities with Baruch/CUNY personnel regardless of whether or not the research involves human subjects. Please see Section 2 (ii.) of the attached IRA SOP document for research definition details. The IRA must be completed and signed prior to the Independent Researcher’s involvement in CUNY research. The agreement must be signed by the Independent Researcher, Principal Investigator of Research, Chair of the Department in which the PI has primary Affiliation, and then will be sent to the Provost’s Designee for final signature.

Please submit all forms to me at keisha.peterson@baruch.cuny.edu or by fax at 646-312-2219 to obtain signature from the Provost’s Office. Please note that forms will not be submitted to the Provost’s Designee until all other signatures have been obtained and the application is complete.

Please review the attached SOP’s and contact me if you have any questions.

Best Regards,

Keisha
