At the September meeting of Baruch’s faculty senate, a suggestion was advanced that the college organize a faculty book club. From 2007-2010 we had such a club, which was much lauded by participants: http://www.baruch.cuny.edu/facultyhandbook/bookclub2006.htm
Among the suggestions that have come my way for texts are the two below, with links to reviews:
Geoge Anders, You Can Do Anything: The Surprising Power of a “Useless” Liberal Arts Education
The New York Times Book Review – Timothy Aubry (associate professor of English, Baruch College)
Duff McDonald, The Golden Passport: Harvard Business School, the Limits of Capitalism, and the Moral Failure of the MBA Elite
The provost’s office would love to receive further suggestions: please send suggestions to Vanessa Cano by noon on Friday, September 22: Vanessa.Cano@baruch.cuny.edu
Soon thereafter, I’ll circulate a list of the books you’ve all named and ask you to vote for the one you think would lead to the most fruitful duscussions (or perhaps rank the top three).
