Alfonso W. Quiroz, a full-time member of the History faculty since 1986, died yesterday at the age of 56. Much could be said about Alfonso’s significant contributions to members of the Baruch community, especially to his students and colleagues. Here we will note only that in 2009 he received the college’s Abraham Briloff Prize in Ethics for his book, Corrupt Circles: Costs of Unbound Graft in Peru (Woodrow Wilson Center and Johns Hopkins University Press, 2008), as well as the President’s Excellence Award for Scholarship at commencement.

During the spring semester, the History Department will hold a memorial get-together to honor Prof. Quiroz’s achievements and to share our memories.
