Please join the Office of Student Life as we celebrate Asian Pacific-American Heritage Month. During the month of April we will be highlighting the history and many achievements of the Asian Pacific-American community through workshops, seminars, music and dance.
Participate in a conversation on “The Model Minority” led by Zuleica Lopez, Multicultural Affairs Coordinator in the Office of Student Life. A discussion on stereotypes that persist in the Asian and Pacific Islander community, particularly the concept of the “model minority” will be the focus of the conversation. We will also share effective ways to dispel this myth and actions that can empower others to do the same.
The dialogue will be on Tuesday, April 16, from 12:30-2:30pm in NVC 2-110. RSVP to email@example.com.
You are also invited to join us for a workshop titled “Coming to Gold Mountain: Asian American Immigration History.” The event is co-sponsored by the Percy Ellis Sutton SEEK (Search for Education Elevation and Knowledge) Program at Baruch College and led by Dr. Grace Yun, Director of InterRelations Collaborative, Inc. and Visiting Faculty at University of Connecticut, Hartford. The workshop will celebrate the spirit of those who overcame Angel Island (Ellis Island of the West) and will explore the documentation of distinctive historical and cultural contributions by Americans of Asian ancestry to American life and society. Rare access to visual documentation from Yale’s digital archives will be made available to students as well.
The event will take place on Thursday, April 18, from 12:30-2:30pm in NVC 2-125.
