From:  Mary E. Gorman, Chief of Staff

One year ago, Baruch College became a Tobacco-Free Campus, in compliance with a new CUNY-wide policy (http://www.cuny.edu/about/resources/healthycuny/tobaccofreecuny.html) on tobacco designed to create a clean campus out of respect for our community and the environment.  The policy prohibits tobacco use of any kind on the entire campus, including all indoor space, plazas, and sidewalks surrounding campus buildings.  Tobacco products banned include, but are not limited to, cigarettes (traditional and e-cigarettes), chew, pipes, cigars, hookah or waterpipe smoking, snuff, and snus; I bring this list to your attention specifically because we have received complaints already this semester from students about the use of electronic cigarettes inside our buildings in violation of the policy.

We are counting on our staff, faculty, and students to abide by these rules.

We take pride in a clean, healthy campus for all to enjoy.  We also recognize that for smokers the ban represents a challenge and we appreciate your cooperation in observing the rules. Tobacco users interested in more information about cessation programs are encouraged to contact Student Affairs Health and Wellness at 646-312-4755 or call the NY State Smoker’s Quit Line at 1-866-NY-QUITS (1-866-697-8487).

Thank you for making our campus a Clean Space by keeping it tobacco-free.
