From:  Prof. Mindy Engle-Friedman, Chair, Baruch College Task Force on Sustainability

Dear Colleagues,

We had the great pleasure and benefit of hearing Karen Walker Thompson speak at last Tuesday’s Freshman Convocation. Her novel, The Age of Miracles, was selected as this year’s freshman text.  Aside from her illuminating description of her writing process, she shared her thoughts about the roles our students must play in responding to and mitigating the widespread impact of climate change and natural resource depletion.  Her discussion of human resiliency and innovation in the face of challenge and adversity was especially captivating. She urged our students to become leaders, visionaries and creators in this new and evolving environmental landscape.

We can, both in and outside the classroom, prepare our students for the challenges and possibilities that lie ahead. Here is a sample of resources that may help to stimulate conversations about this topic with your students and colleagues.
