Supporting English Language Learners (ELLs) at Baruch

Tuesday, April 9, 12:30-2:00, NVC 14-267

From:  Mikhail Gershovich, Director, Bernard L. Schwartz Communication Institute
In this workshop we'll explore the resources available to English Language Learners (ELLs) and the faculty who teach them at Baruch. We'll address a wide range of challenges that ELL students face, both at the level of informal classroom participation and with respect to formal written and oral assignments across the disciplines. We'll be joined by Suzanne Epstein (Schwartz Communication Institute) who will address strategies for listening to ELL students and the open source Video Oral Communication Assessment Technology (VOCAT); DJ Dolack (SACC) who will discuss the Tools for Clear Speech program (TfCS) which offers tutorial services to ELLs; and Keri Bertino (the Writing Center) who will address the evaluation of ELL writing and techniques to identify meaningful patterns of error in written feedback.

Adjuncts will be compensated for their time at the non-teaching adjunct rate.

RSVP to Melissa.Santander@baruch.cuny.edu or (646) 312-2065. Lunch will be served.
