The results of student evaluations of Baruch’s courses and instructors from Fall 2015 are ready for viewing.
60% of the students who were invited to respond to the surveys did so. (Results from students with W’s or WU’s have been eliminated.) 60% compares to 57% for Spring 2015 and 58% for Fall 2014 and far surpasses the national average of 40% or less for online evaluations. Talking about the evaluations in class and reminding students via Blackboard clearly helps, as does students’ ability to do the evaluations from “smart” devices of various kinds. Nevertheless, our office will continue to work with the Faculty Senate and the Joint Committee on Student Evaluation of Courses and Teaching to consider ways to improve participation even further.
To view your results: Members of the faculty can go to http://baruch.cuny.edu/evals, click on the large “Login” button in the middle of the page, enter the appropriate information (the same used at Baruch), and gain access to the “My EvalCenter,” where the evaluation results appear. (Click on “see” in the column on the right to see results.)
Answers to some anticipated questions
Why are my evaluation questions numbered 20-37 instead of 1-18?
SmartEvals is in the process of correcting this error; it might take up to a week. That said, for courses with multiple instructors, the numbering is continuous (we opted to have the two surveys in such courses appear on the same page rather than have students select an instructor from a button embedded in the survey form): until the error is corrected, the questions for “second” instructors will be numbered 39-56; thereafter, 20-37.
Why is my course not listed?
Courses with fewer than five students enrolled were not listed. If a course had more than five students, but no students responded to the survey, then there is no report.
Why can’t I print my evaluation report?
Printing might not work if you are using a Mozilla Firefox browser to access your evaluations. Using a different browser should work; alternatively, you can “Export to PDF option on the website.” Baruch’s Help Desk can answer related questions: email@example.com or 646-312-1010.
Please ask Gary Hotko in Baruch’s Testing and Evaluation Office: Gary.Hotko@baruch.cuny.edu.
