Dear Faculty Colleagues,

Please let Deborah Mazzia know by Wednesday, April 24 if the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, which begins at sundown on Tuesday, May 14 and lasts through sundown on Thursday, May 16, will mean that you will not be able to teach your class(es) scheduled on those days, the last three of the spring 2013 semester. Ms. Mazzia will then be in touch with you to discuss possible ways to make up any missed classes (e.g., club hours on a previous Thursday, Tuesday alternative club hours, meeting on Sundays, or Friday morning). Online asynchronous presentations/discussions, such as those that many members of the faculty employed after Hurricane Sandy last fall, also are options.

Observant students will not be able to attend their classes on those days. They will nevertheless be responsible for making up any missed work. Those who observe the holiday must be given an opportunity to make up any missed assignments and to have access to any materials distributed in the final class session(s). By prior arrangement with Media Services (sufficient lead time is important), classes may be video-taped for subsequent viewing online.
