The Bernard L. Schwartz Communication Institute Presents

a Faculty Development Workshop

From: Mikhail Gershovich, Director, Bernard L. Schwartz Communication Institute

Roundtable Discussion: Responding to Student Writing

Wednesday Dec. 5, 2:30-4pm, Newman Library Building, Room 763
This roundtable will focus on responding to student writing from both practical and pedagogical perspectives. Considering a process-based model of response, we will consider strategies of evaluative reading and productive, facilitative feedback.  We'll engage a number of common issues and questions around responding to student writing, including how much correction (the infamous red pen) is useful, the benefits of margin vs. summary comments, the uses of praise and criticism, and student conferencing.  Participants from all disciplines are encouraged to bring examples of student writing that they have found challenging to respond to for workshop purposes.

Refreshments will be served.
