NOTE:  The following reminder has been CORRECTED to reflect that the MPR that is due at this time is for Fall 2017 (see part 1 of “Procedure to comply with CUNY’s Multiple Position Policy”).

 

Dear Full-time Faculty: 

In accordance with New York State law as well as long-standing University policy, all full-time faculty members (including those faculty who are in substitute positions) are required to file a Multiple Position Report (MPR) for every semester. The MPR (which is not related to the New York State Ethics Commission requirement that faculty earning in excess of $95,534 file an Annual Statement of Financial Disclosure) requires the disclosure of information related to the performance of the duties beyond those of a full-time faculty member.  Activity beyond  your regular full-time appointment (whether within CUNY or outside of CUNY) that is governed by the University’s Multiple Position Policy may be undertaken only upon prior approval of your Department Chairperson and P&B Committee.  You are responsible for reporting any such activity.  Further, any employment that exceeds the regulations of the Multiple Position Policy will need to be brought to the attention of the Department Chair who should thus consult with me (the Labor Designee) for review.

To help you understand and comply with the Multiple Position mandate, I have attached a Powerpoint that gives an overview of the University’s Multiple Position Policy along with the Multiple Position Form.  Please remember that faculty members who fail to file this report, or who engage in willful false reporting of information, are subject to University penalties. 

The University recognizes the protections afforded by the First Amendment.  Hence, although the MPR requires full disclosure of all compensated activities beyond your regular full-time assignment (along with any significant uncompensated commitments outside of CUNY) you are not required to report incidental uncompensated activities related to your membership in academic, political, religious, social, cultural, or charitable organizations, as long as these activities do not constitute a substantial commitment of your time.

Procedure to comply with CUNY’s Multiple Position Policy: 

1.     Please begin using the recently updated CUNY Multiple Position Report (MPR) that has been attached to this email and discontinue the use of previous versions.  All full-time faculty members must complete an MPR for the Fall 2017 semester.  Faculty members without additional duties are required to complete only Part A.  Faculty members who perform additional duties either: (1) outside of Baruch College, but within the CUNY system; or (2) outside the CUNY system must complete Part B on page one and two of the MPR.

2.     Upon completion, please forward your MPR to your Department Chair.  If you are reporting additional duties, the Department Chair and the Department Personnel and Budget Committee will review and recommend appropriate action on page three of the Report.  The deadline to submit your Fall 2017 MPR to your Department Chair is Wednesday, October 4, 2017.

3.     After review by the P&B, the Chair (or the Chair’s designee) will then forward your MPR to the Dean’s Office for review and appropriate action.

4.     The Dean’s Office will forward properly completed Reports to the Office of Legal Counsel and Labor Designee for final review. The Labor Designee will notify the Dean’s Office of improperly completed Reports and will return them to the Department Chairs and/or Deans for completion.
