Thursday, March 8, 2012 @ 7pm
Yuyutsu RD Sharma reads from his book of poetry, Milarepa’s Bones(forthcoming), and Nepal Trilogy (Nirala Publications, 2011), authored with German photographer Andreas Stimm. A distinguished poet and translator, Mr. Sharma has received many awards, fellowships, and grants, including from The Rockefeller Foundation, Ireland Literature Exchange, Trubar Foundation, Slovenia, The Institute for the Translation of Hebrew Literature, and The Foundation for the Production and Translation of Dutch Literature.
Robert Scotto a professor of English at Baruch until his recent retirement, reads poetry from his travels in India and Nepal with photographer Lu Wu, with whom he has just published Journeys Through Nepal and India (Nirala Publications, 2012). His previous publications include a critical edition of Catch-22, a book on the contemporary American novel, and essays on Walter Pater, James Joyce, and other major writers of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. His book Moondog (Process, 2007) won the 2008 ARSC Award for Best Research in Recorded Classical Music and the bronze medal for biography from the Independent Publisher Book Awards 2008. Journeys through India and Nepal is his first collection of poems.
Lu Wu presents and discusses her photographs from the journey. Ms. Wu is retired tax accountant who is finally doing what she has wanted to do all her life: draw, paint, write Chinese calligraphy, and develop her skills as a photographer. Several of the photographs in Moondog will be credited to her in the second edition. This is her first venture in publishing.
