The Bernard L. Schwartz Communication Institute presents

A Faculty Development Roundtable Discussion

Invention in the Classroom

From:  Mikhail Gershovich, Director, Bernard L. Schwartz Communication Institute

 Invention in the Classroom

Thursday, March 14, 12:45-2:15pm, 137 E. 25th St., Room 323

Across a variety of disciplines, we often ask our students to “be inventive." In this roundtable we’ll take a look at specific assignments that demand invention and consider the challenges and the benefits involved in this request. We’ll also explore ways that producing visual and physical objects (using a 3D printer, for example, or video and the web) might assist our students in understanding their own roles and capacities as producers of knowledge. We'll explore how invention, in the sense of Thomas Edison and Rube Goldberg, can inspire invention, in the sense of generating ideas in composing. We’ll be joined by Erica Kaufman, Lecturer, Dept. of English.

Lunch will be served.

RSVP to Melissa.Santander@baruch.cuny.edu or 646 312 2065.
