Immersive Worlds: Science, Narrative, and the Arts

You and your classes are encourage to attend Immersive Worlds: Science, Narrative, and the Arts a full-day, conference and exhibit held in BPAC which explories the impact of immersive technologies across multiple disciplines including advertising, data, arts, education, science, and journalism.

Three panels moderated by Baruch faculty and keynote address:

Interactive Exhibit – a collaboration with the New Media Artspace curated by Katherine Behar:

The exhibit layers augmented reality and virtual reality artworks by Ben Chang, Silvia Ruzanka, and Will Pappenheimer which highlight the interplay of viewers’ bodies as they engage with immersive technologies as physical objects, exposing the importance of materiality in virtual systems. It includes a Google Cardboard stereoscopy project by Baruch New Media Arts students Ivan Calderon, Alyssa D’Angelo, Mohamed Hassan, Iris Kim, Alexandra Perez, and Michelle Sheu.

The GeoDome by The Elumentai - an immersive learning environment consisting of a dome and projection system - will allow 3-dimensional data visualization immersing the viewer in a virtual tour of the human brain called the Neurodome.

Immersive Worlds is convened by the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences (WSAS) and Baruch Performing Arts Center (BPAC). It was coordinated by Sarah Bishop, Susan Tenneriello, Ted Altschuler and Katherine Behar. It is supported by Globus Speaker Series funds, the WSAS Dean’s Office, and Baruch College’s Office of the Provost. The Immersive Worlds Art Exhibition is a collaboration between the New Media Artspace and the Immersive Worlds Conference. It has been supported by the Baruch College Maker Hub, the Newman Library, and BCTC and by the contributions of the presenters and artists. The Elumenati immersive projection designers have supplied the Geodome facilitate viewing of the Neurodome.
