From:  Chris Diggs, Assistant Director for Student Affairs

Dear Members of the Baruch Community:

Each year, a committee of faculty, students, and administrators selects a book for the entire Baruch community to read and discuss, both in our Freshman Seminar and in courses throughout the college.  The selection for fall 2014 is the novel How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia by Mohsin Hamid.

We would be pleased to present you with a free copy of this novel, a parody of a self-help book that follows a boy in his quest for wealth and love, who learns some unexpected lessons along the way. To request a free copy, please contact Christina.Diggs@baruch.cuny.edu.

All entering freshman will be given a copy of the book at orientation this summer and asked to read it in its entirety in time for Convocation and the book discussion hour that follows.  How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia will be the subject of the keynote address at Freshman Convocation, scheduled for Thursday August 23rd.  We especially encourage teaching faculty to include the book on their required reading lists for the fall semester.

The Library faculty and selection committee members will be developing a study guide for your reference.  We will share more information once it becomes available.

We hope that you enjoy reading How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia !

Best wishes,

The Freshman Text Selection Committee
