Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
This email is being sent to all members of the Baruch College faculty.
From: Jeffrey M. Peck, Dean of the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences and Vice Provost for Global Strategies
As some of you know, Vice President for Enrollment Management and Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Ben Corpus and I were in Brazil as part of an Institute of International Education trip whose goal was to initiate links between American universities and Brazilian institutions. We also learned about the Brazilian higher education system and Fulbright’s role in the country. As one of the participating institutions, we were able to target some academic institutions that would potentially suit our three schools. In addition, we learned of other opportunities for faculty and student exchange with Brazil.
Before our next trip to Brazil with additional Baruch representatives, I wanted to alert you to the fact that most Brazilian universities have short and long term funding for visits from American faculty who might want to lecture and/ or collaborate with their Brazilian colleagues. There are also additional Fulbright grants that are now available for teaching and research in Brazil. Finally, the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio, one of the nation’s best academic institutions, also has a Fulbright Chair in the Study of the Americas for which they often have few applicants.
I urge you to think seriously about taking advantage of these opportunities, especially as Baruch College embarks on an ambitious plan of recruiting students from the country, and teaching Portuguese with the hopes of encouraging more students from Baruch to study in Brazil. They also welcome Spanish speaking students.
