Exploring ESL Challenges: Oral and Written Communication
Thursday, October 18, 12:45-2:15pm, NVC 14-267
This roundtable will address some of the struggles experienced by both teachers of ESL writing and speaking as well as the students we often categorize as “ESL” or “multilingual.” Guided by Professor Christine Rosalia (School of Education, Hunter College), we will explore some of the perceptions, expectations, and experiences of faculty and ESL students in order to better understand our current pedagogical practices and outcomes. We likewise will identify techniques for reading, evaluating, and responding to student writing and oral presentations that can stimulate language acquisition and critical expression and enrich classroom culture.
Lunch will be served. Adjuncts will be compensated for their time at the non-teaching adjunct rate.
