Everyday Speaking and Writing: A Professional Development Workshop
Presented by the Bernard L. Schwartz Communication Institute
Wednesday November 16, 2.30-4pm, Newman Conference Center, Room 763 (7th floor of the library building)
Beyond the high-stakes, “communication-intensive” oral and written projects we assign, what are the everyday, sometimes invisible practices of speech and writing in and out ofclass that can pave the way for more formal projects and are effective in their own right in helping students to grow as speakers and writers? In this cross-disciplinary workshop, we'll take a look at everyday pedagogies of speaking and writing, and discuss the ways a focus on spoken language can deepen students' engagement with course material and have power impact on the quality and depth of their writing. We'll also introduce helpful online oral presentation tools that can be adapted for your own instructional needs.
Refreshments will be served. Adjuncts will be compensated for their time at the non-teaching adjunct rate.
