From:  Allison Lehr Samuels, Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL)

All faculty are welcome to the workshops and programs being offered by the CTL this semester. The CTL has organized events into three tracks: Hybrid and Online Teaching; Tools, Skills, & Technology; and Pedagogy & Teaching Strategies. You can see the dates and full descriptions of the workshops at http://ctl.baruch.cuny.edu/ctl-programming-fall-2016-september/.

The CTL is also introducing two regular events: CTL Conversations and Tech Thursdays.

CTL Conversations will occur every Wednesday from 4 to 6 pm, offering faculty a time to come together and informally workshop, brainstorm, and discuss topics related to their teaching, with different topics each week. These will kick off on September 7 with “Class Discussions: How can I get more than two students to speak in my class?” You are welcome to drop in for all or part of the session. Cookies and caffeine will be provided.

Tech Thursdays will be from 4 to 5 pm on the last Thursday of each month. The CTL will provide an overview of the featured technology and give faculty members the opportunity to explore, ask questions, and discuss how it may help facilitate their courses. The first Tech Thursday will be September 29, featuring the Canvas learning management system. We also welcome suggestions for future sessions.

Other workshops include hands-on Blogs@Baruch tutorials, active learning strategies, and a “video capture bootcamp.” To read more and RSVP, please visit http://ctl.baruch.cuny.edu/ctl-programming-fall-2016-september/.

Those of you interested in starting a class blog might be especially interested in the workshop on this Thursday, Sep 1 from 12:45-1:30. You will leave this workshop with your class blog in place, and you can develop it further in one-on-one consultations with CTL staff.

Lastly, in addition to setting up a one-on-one appointment with the CTL staff, you are welcome to stop by during CTL “Drop-In Hours” which are listed here: http://ctl.baruch.cuny.edu/location-hours/.

If you have any questions and/or requests for future programming, please contact Allison Lehr Samuels, the Director of the CTL at Allison.Lehr-Samuels@baruch.cuny.edu.
