INVITATION

From: Stan Altman, School of Public Affairs and Director, Baruch College-Rubin Museum Project

Dear Colleagues,

With the start of the 2016 spring semester, the Baruch College-Rubin Museum of Art Project is again offering opportunities for the Baruch community to enjoy the arts and cultural opportunities NYC offers. In this spirit I am writing to invite you to join me in another production of wonderful theatre at the Abingdon Theatre. We have purchased a limited number of tickets for faculty, staff, and students (and a guest if desired) to attend the performance for free. Submit your request to Ms. Jonelle Griffen at jonelle.griffen@baruch.cuny.edu

Priority will be given to individuals who have not previously attended a performance at Abingdon Theatre. The remaining seats will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.  We have purchased 20 tickets for each of the following two evening showings:

Tuesday, March 8, at 7:00 pm   (includes a talkback with cast after show)

Wednesday, March 9 at 8:00 pm

Please RSVP to Jonelle Griffen with the performance you want to attend at  jonelle.griffen@baruch.cuny.edu.  She will notify everyone as to the outcome of their request.

Abingdon Theatre Presents

A ROOM OF MY OWN

Written And Directed by: Charles Messina

Featuring: Mario Cantone (Sex and the City, Laugh Whore, and The View) and

Ralph Macchio (The Karate Kid, My Cousin Vinnie, and Dancing with the Stars)

In A ROOM OF MY OWN, playwright and director Charles Messina recounts growing up with his eccentric Italian-American family in Greenwich Village. Ralph Macchio (The Karate Kid, My Cousin Vinny, Dancing with the Stars) co-stars as Carl Morelli, a writer who reminisces about his childhood in a crowded downtown tenement.

Wishing for  his own room--and an Atari--young Carl shares a tiny studio in a five-flight walk-up with his unemployed father, older sister, and strong-willed mother. Other relatives include a high-strung uncle, portrayed by Mario Cantone (Sex and the City, Laugh Whore, The View), and an estranged aunt. Messina's new Off-Broadway comedy takes a hilarious and heartfelt look at New York City in the late 1970s.

Location:         Abingdon Theatre Company

                           312 W. 36th Street, New York, NY

Time:               Please arrive 20-30 minutes before curtain time

The play runs approximately 90 minutes without intermission.

The Baruch College-Rubin Museum of Art Project

The Baruch College-Rubin Museum of Art Project was established on the principle that exposure and participation in the arts enrich students’ college experience and empower them to seek meaningful lives. Through a number of initiatives, the Project provides faculty the means and opportunity to enrich student experiences by creatively integrating arts across the curriculum, with the purpose of helping students develop the critical and systems thinking skills required to be successful in today’s increasingly interconnected and interdependent world.

The Baruch College-Rubin Museum of Art Project provides Baruch students, faculty and staff FREE admission to the Rubin Museum of Art. Just show your college ID at the admissions desk.
