NEW YORK, NY -- November 11, 2015 -- Nine Baruch student veterans were recognized by the City University of New York (CUNY) for Academic Excellence at an event on the Intrepid Air, Sea & Space Museum on Thursday, November 5.
CUNY - which saw veteran enrollment double between Fall 2004 and Fall 2014 to nearly 3,000 - honored 233 outstanding CUNY students who are U.S. military veterans. All have maintained at least a 3.5 GPA while earning the requisite number of credits toward timely graduation.
The following Baruch College students were among those honored: Juan Amador, Honey Fender, Alex Keith, Amanda Kendall, Maria McFields, Wei Wen Nie, Jean Kenol Plantin, Wenjiao Qin, and Jack Sullivan.
The award ceremony was the highlight of numerous events taking place across CUNY’s 24 campuses during CUNY Month to recognize and support military veterans in the period surrounding Veterans Day.
Baruch College was also recently designated a 2016 military friendly school, by Victory Media, which connects the military and civilian worlds through publications like G.I. Jobs, STEM Jobs and Military Spouse. The Military Friendly School designation provides service members and their families with transparent, data-driven ratings about post-military education and career opportunities.
