Baruch College Offers Expertise on Government & Nonprofits and Finance
Professor Edward Sermier teaches courses in nonprofit finance, management, strategy and leadership in the School of Public Affairs.
He is available to comment on:
- Nonprofit financial planning and management
- Management of government agencies
In addition to teaching, Professor Sermier manages financial planning consulting projects for non-profit organizations across the United States and serves as part-time Chief Financial Officer for The Nation Institute.
He has held a number of executive positions at various organizations, including the Nonprofit Finance Fund (NFF), where he served as Director of National Customized Services, as well as Carnegie Corporation of New York, where he directed the finance and corporate secretary functions as Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer and Director of Program Evaluation.
Professor Sermier was also Chief Financial Officer of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra; Deputy Director in the New York Mayor's Office of Operations for Mayor David Dinkins; Deputy Vice President, Strategic Planning and Capital Budgeting for the New York City Transit Authority; and Chief Executive Officer of the New York City Board of Education’s Special Education division.
Professor Sermier received his BA in mathematics from Manhattan College and his MBA from Columbia University.
