Baruch College Presents “The Color of Modernity: So Paulo and the Making of Race and Nation in Brazil”

NEW YORK, NY -- September 23, 2015 - Author Barbara Weinstein will provide a public lecture at Baruch College on Tuesday, September 29, at 12:30 p.m., on her newly published book on the effects of regional identity and development in Brazil. The event is free and open to the public.

 

Weinstein, the Silver Professor of History at New York University, will speak as part of The Paul A. Feit Memorial Lecture Series.

 

The Color of Modernity: So Paulo and the Making of Race and Nation in Brazil examines how residents of the So Paulo region of Brazil constructed a regional identity associated with "whiteness" in opposition to other areas of Brazil and how this affected long term processes of development and democratization.
