Sad News on the Passing of a Student

Dear Colleagues,

I am saddened to share with you the news that one of our students, senior Anthony Taveras, passed away on Sunday. Anthony came to Baruch from New York City College of Technology and was majoring in sociology. He was nearing the completion of his degree at Baruch. Anthony will be missed by his friends in the Baruch community, and we all share with his family the grief over his loss at such a young age.

The experience of loss may elicit a range of emotions and reactions in each of us. Although many members of our community are away from the campus during the summer, the College’s resources remain available. I encourage any student who feels a need for support to reach out to the Counseling Center by calling 646-312-2155 to set up an appointment, or by visiting their website.

Information regarding funeral arrangements is not available at this time, but anyone interested in receiving such information should contact the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at 646-312-4570. They will provide the details as they become known.

We can rely on the strength of our community to help us cope with such sad news; and I urge students, in particular, to lean on each other or any member of the Baruch College faculty or staff during this difficult time.

Mitchel B. Wallerstein
President, Baruch College
