Message From The President - Baruch College

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Michael L. Barnett, professor of Management and Global Business at Rutgers University will spend the 2015-16 academic year at Baruch College under the auspices of the American Council on Education (ACE) Fellows Program.

The ACE Fellows Program was established in 1965 to strengthen institutional capacity and build leadership in American higher education. It places promising senior faculty and administrators at a host institution where they receive intensive, on-the-job leadership training.

Dr. Barnett was specifically drawn to Baruch because it houses the Zicklin School of Business, one of the nation’s most renowned public accredited business schools. He also appreciates our diverse student body and prime New York City location.

During his fellowship here, Dr. Barnett will focus on the management of the university-business interface, specifically the institutional positioning of the College through its engagement of the business world and its relationship with external entities. He will work closely with Provost David Christy and me, observing day-to-day operations related to the administration of Baruch College. Dr. Barnett will meet with various stakeholders and interact with the senior leadership of the College. The Management Department has graciously offered to host Dr. Barnett’s office in NVC 9-285.

Dr. Barnett, who is also a former vice dean for Academic Programs at Rutgers Business School, holds a PhD in Management and Organization and an M.Phil. in Management and International Business from New York University. He earned an MBA in Business Administration from Webster University and a BS in Banking, Finance, and Economics from University of Missouri.

In addition to working in residence at a host institution, ACE Fellows participate in retreats, campus visits, and other interactive learning opportunities to condense years of on-the-job experience and skills development into a single semester or year. Fellows also spend time learning how to implement their new knowledge and insights upon returning to their own campuses at the conclusion of the Fellowship year. To learn about the program, I encourage you to visit the ACE Fellows website.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Michael Barnett.
