Announcing Two New Permanent Appointments
Dear Faculty and Staff,
It gives me great personal pleasure to announce two outstanding permanent appointments to the College’s senior staff.
Mary Gorman, New Vice President for Enrollment Management and Strategic Academic Initiatives
First, I am delighted to inform the Baruch community that Mary Gorman has been permanently appointed as Vice President for Enrollment Management and Strategic Academic Initiatives (EMSAI). Mary has served with great distinction as Interim Vice President since June 2015, and her successful leadership is demonstrated by the quality and diversity of both the First Year and Transfer classes. Last year’s First Year class exceeded goal: We maintained our distinctively high average SAT score and grade point average for the entering class. We also saw increases in the number of Underrepresented Minority (URM) students enrolled in both the First Year and Transfer classes, and the goal for new SEEK URM enrollment was exceeded by almost 80 percent. While it is still early for a final assessment, this year’s enrollment appears on track to maintain overall numbers of URM students, while at the same time producing another slight increase to the average SAT scores for entering freshmen. Mary’s accomplishments are even more impressive given that she had to manage during this period without some key staff. Under her leadership, the EMSAI division has worked to improve retention and our undergraduate graduation rate, which supports my aspirational goal of achieving a six-year graduation rate of 75 percent within the next five years. Mary Gorman has worked at Baruch College for 15 years, including 12 years as Chief of Staff to four successive presidents. Clearly, this new, permanent appointment is both hard earned and well deserved. Congratulations, Mary!
Kenya Lee, New Chief of Staff to the President
I am equally pleased to announce the appointment of Kenya Lee as permanent Chief of Staff to the President, after serving with great success as Interim Chief of Staff since June 2015. A member of the Baruch professional staff since 2004, Kenya previously served as Executive Assistant to the President, and the scope of her responsibilities and expertise expanded significantly during her tenure. During her time as Interim Chief of Staff, she quickly and adeptly assumed the role of my chief advisor and administrator for various projects, proposals, and campus initiatives. She also co-chaired the College Senior Staff, served as co-leader for the College’s Institutional Effectiveness Initiative, and has overseen compliance with CUNY’s Performance Management Process, among many other responsibilities. Kenya has consistently been among the most highly engaged members of the Baruch staff, lending her time and energy to a wide variety of activities and issues across the College and maintaining an open door (and telephone) to staff and faculty alike. She is a problem solver of the first order as well as a person with political savvy and finely tuned diplomatic skills. Kenya Lee’s promotion is also hard earned and well deserved. Congratulations, Kenya!
