Message From The President - Baruch College

November 11, 2011

Dear Colleagues,

I write to announce, with great regret, that Gabe Eszterhas, Vice President for Administration and Finance, has informed me of his decision to resign his position at the College, effective 6 January 2012, in order to relocate out of state for family reasons. Gabe has been a close colleague and valued advisor, and I am extremely sorry to see him depart. In his time at Baruch, he has brought clarity and substantial expertise to his position, and helped to guide the College through a period of great financial difficulty with competence and skill. I am also particularly grateful for the role he played during my transition to the presidency in making understandable CUNY’S highly complex budgeting and finance systems and in helping to keep the College on an even keel during a time of scarce resources. I wish him all the best in the next phase of his career.

I am currently in the process of convening a search committee that will be charged with identifying candidates for this critical position, and we shortly will initiate a national search for a new Vice President for Administration and Finance. In the meantime, I am confident that the Administration and Finance division will, upon Gabe’s departure, continue to be led ably by Assistant Vice Presidents Mary Finnen, Jim Lloyd, and Mary Rivers; Interim Human Resources Director Donna Katz, and BCF Controller Irina Laskin.

Mitchel Wallerstein
President, Baruch College
