Uniquely NYC
NYC Poetry Festival
The New York City Poetry Festival takes place every year at Governors Island on the last weekend of July. This is a two-day festival, which started on 2010, and invites poets and poetry organizations to bring their own unique formats and personalities to the festival. This festival features over 75 poetry organizations, 250 poets, and an open mic area where attendees not affiliated with a publisher or organization can sign up to read their poetry. The festival was mainly designed to bring the poetry community in New York and from around the country, together to put a spotlight on this art form. There is also a Vendor's Village, where artists, artisans and food vendors can sell their products to satisfy the curiosity and appetite of everyone present.
This festival is organized by The Poetry Society of New York, and partially funded by Kickstarter, an American public-benefit corporation based in Brooklyn, New York; and by other sponsors, such as the New York State Council on the Arts and The Poetry Table.
With this much inspiration during the summer, it's worth a trip to beautiful Governor's Island to partake in this artform and enjoy the magnificent views of New York City from this venue.
