The original team (formally known as the MetroStars) are founding members of the MLS created in 1996.
In 2006, the team was sold and renamed the New York Red Bulls.
The New York Red Bulls were the U.S. Open Cup runners-up
in 2003 and MLS Cup runners-up in 2008.
