The Demographics of the Broadway Audience

2007-2008 Season  

 
  • Over 6 million tickets were purchased by visitors who come to New York to specifically attend a Broadway show.
  • 62% of the audeince were repeat customers.
  • Average Broadway theater goer attends more than four shows per season.
  • About 64% of the Broadway audience were females, who were also the primary decision makers in show selections. The male/female ratio has remained relatively consistent over the years.
  • Broadway audiences consist of locals (35%) and tourists (65%), where the number of domestic tourists has grown from 3.4 million in 1999 to 6.1 million in 2007.
  • Average annual household income of the national theatregoer in 2007-08 was $92,000
