BARUCH STUDENTS WILL PROVIDE TAX HELP IN EIGHT LOCATIONS AROUND THE CITY
Every year New
Yorkers struggle with their tax forms. Particularly for immigrants
and the elderly, filling out a federal form 1040 can be a
real headache. Baruch College students are prepared to help.
Under the auspices of the College’s Golden Key Honor
Society and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, some
250 Baruch students have set up sites all over town to facilitate
tax preparation and filing.
Headquarters for the free public service program is the Baruch
College Library and Technology building, located at 151 E.
25th Street, Room 320. Tax help is available at this location
Tuesdays through Fridays, 10 am to 8 pm. Seven other sites
in Manhattan, the Bronx and Brooklyn offer tax assistance
during designated hours.
All students participating in the Baruch VITA program have
passed an IRS qualifying exam. Many are accounting majors
preparing for careers in the profession. No appointments are
necessary and tax help is provided on a first-come, first-serve
basis. Student tax preparers are qualified to complete Forms
1040 and 1040A as well as New York State and City forms IT
200 and IT 201, with accompanying schedules. They will help
clarify such issues as earned income tax credits, childcare
deductions, and tuition credits.
This service will be operational March 1st through Thursday,
April 15, 2004. The Baruch VITA program can be contacted directly
via e-mail at VITA_2004_01@yahoo.com.
