Baruch Appoints Jack S. Nyman
Steven L. Newman Real Estate Institute
New York, NY – February 23, 2007--Baruch College President Kathleen Waldron announced the appointment of Jack S. Nyman as director of the Steven L. Newman Real Estate Institute. Mr. Nyman has extensive marketplace and academic experience in the development, management, and financing of residential, commercial and mixed-use properties both in the U.S. and abroad. He will replace Professor John Goering who served as Interim Director of the Newman Real Estate Institute. Professor Goering will resume fulltime teaching and research responsibilities in Baruch College.
The Newman Real Estate Institute at Baruch College provides a forum and foundation for public programs and discussion for issues of real estate and metropolitan development. The institute serves as a resource for professionals in the field as well as a training ground for students preparing for careers in the industry. It was established in 1995 with an endowment gift from William and Anita Newman in memory of their son, who along with his father, worked in the field of real estate.
Announcing the selection of Nyman, President Waldron said, “Jack Nyman is an outstanding choice to lead the Newman Real Estate Institute. His extensive experience in every facet of the real estate industry will enable him to develop important public programs, seminars and research projects consonant with the mission of the Institute, while at the same time ensuring that students are academically prepared for careers in this vital economic sector.”
Mr. Nyman comes to the Newman Institute as a graduate from Harvard University, where he was most recently an International Visiting Research Fellow studying environmental and planning law and policy, construction law, advanced project management and strategic planning.
A Canadian by birth, he was previously president and CEO of Nyman Investments Inc., and the executive vice president, director, and co-founder of the Real Corporate Group, a property company specializing in the acquisition, syndication and management of a diversified portfolio of commercial and residential properties.
Earlier in his career he served as Senior V.P. of Investment Banking and Commercial Real Estate Lending for a leading financial institution. Jack Nyman has been involved in the development of real estate and investment projects across Canada as well as in Florida, Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, London, Beijing and Shanghai. He was part of the design planning team for a variety of cultural institutions in California and on the east coast.
Mr. Nyman is affiliated with such organizations as the Harvard Club of New York, the Urban Land Institute, ARES, the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts, the International Council of Shopping Centers, and the Real Estate Board of New York.
Professor Goering, Interim Director of the Newman Real Estate Institute, participated on the search committee that selected Mr. Nyman.
