New York, NY - November 15, 2007— Anita Newman, wife of real estate investor and philanthropist Bill Newman ('47, LLD (Hon.) '97), passed away on Wednesday, November 14. Mrs. Newman met her future husband while they were both students at Evander Childs High School in the Bronx. They were married in 1947, the year Bill graduated from Baruch College. Bill and Anita shared an unwavering love for their children and grandchildren and an abiding commitment to education as the pathway to opportunity in America.

Bill and Anita Newman made Baruch College part of their family by lending their name to the Vertical Campus, the Library, the Conference Center, and the Real Estate Programs. Their vision for the future and their extraordinary generosity raised the College's sights and its ambitions. As recently as October 13, 2007, Bill and Anita attended the 60th reunion dinner of the Class of '47 at Baruch with their daughter, Debbie Bernstein. On that evening, Baruch awarded the first ever William and Anita Newman Medal for Philanthropy. Anita was a member of the Baruch family and an equal partner with Bill in his proud support of the College.

Her funeral is scheduled for Friday, November 16 at 10am at Congregation B'nai Yisrael, 2 Banksville Road, Armonk, New York. For more information on the college's arrangements for the funeral, contact Kenya Lee in the Office of the President at 646-312-3322.
